Aftercare

Keep your worktop looking its best

A few everyday habits help protect the surface. Start with the care instructions for your particular material, and ask us before using an unfamiliar cleaner or treatment.

01

Clean gently

Use a soft cloth and a cleaner suitable for your specific stone or surface. Follow the material supplier's care guidance, and dry the surface after cleaning.

02

Deal with spills

Wipe spills promptly. Avoid leaving oils, strongly coloured food or cleaning products sitting on the worktop.

03

Protect the finish

Use a chopping board and place hot pans on a suitable trivet. Avoid abrasive pads and cleaners that are not approved for the surface.

04

Know your material

Granite, quartz and porcelain have different care requirements. Keep the material name and the care instructions supplied for your worktop.

Sealing and treatments

Check before you apply anything

Natural stone varies in how much it absorbs. Whether it needs sealing depends on the material, its finish and any treatment already applied. Avoid a fixed resealing schedule that has not been recommended for your worktop.

Quartz and porcelain should be cared for according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not apply a natural-stone sealer simply because it worked on another worktop.

If you are unsure, send the material name, a photograph and details of the cleaner or sealer you are considering.

Have a mark, chip or change in the finish?

Photograph the whole area and a close-up in good light. Tell us when you noticed it and what products have been used. Avoid trying several treatments before getting advice.

Natural variation

Granite varies in colour and pattern from one piece to another. If something concerns you when you collect a blank or when your worktop is fitted, raise it with us so it can be discussed. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.
